When is imaging like X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs necessary?

X-rays are usually ordered when doctors suspect fractures or joint damage. They are fast and effective for identifying broken bones. X-rays are often used in the ER shortly after an accident.

CT scans are commonly used for head injuries, spinal trauma, or suspected internal bleeding. They provide detailed images quickly and are useful in emergency situations. CT scans are often ordered after moderate to severe crashes.

MRIs are typically used when pain continues or nerve or soft-tissue damage is suspected. They show muscles, ligaments, discs, and nerves more clearly. MRIs are often ordered days or weeks after the accident if symptoms persist.
