How long after an accident can symptoms appear?
Some symptoms appear immediately, especially with fractures or severe trauma. Others are delayed because inflammation and muscle tightening take time to develop. Adrenaline can also temporarily block pain.
Whiplash, concussions, and soft-tissue injuries often show up 24 to 72 hours later. Pain may increase gradually rather than suddenly. This delay is very common after car accidents.
In some cases, symptoms don’t appear for weeks. That’s why follow-up care is important even if you felt okay initially.
